Asnake Gebreyes "Ahadu" is an overlooked Ethio Jazz classic. Originally released on cassette in 1988 through the Walia Music Shop in Addis Ababa, the album has not been available out of the country until now.
Lead track 'Weyene Ajir' (my mysterious brother) was a big hit on release and remains one of Asnake's best known songs.
Born in 1963, Singer Asnake Gebreyes released a series of sought-after cassette-only recordings in Addis Ababa in the 80s and has been working with French band UkanDanz for the past few years.

Just a note that I’ve had this in rotation since I bought it. I love finding these little micro-genres of awesome music. Thank you, Analog Africa, for taking the time to dig these up! \m/ The Defenestrator

Why do you love this album? Well, it is the quality of ALL the Analog Africa releases , the astonishing presentation- artwork, AWESOME booklets, the mastering, the music first of all and the feeling you connect with it and the artists involved. Due to not earning enough I changed from vinyl to CDs, but I am glad for the high quality downloads of the vinyl only releases that you are able to burn to disc. Together with a chosen few others AA is a greater than great label. Period. Markus Bader
